The First VHS Haul of 2016

It’s no secret that tapes are getting harder and harder to find out there in wild, especially good genre material in ex-rental form, but I received a lead from a good contact and as always decided to act upon it, the only problem was that this particular lead was down on the South Coast. I say problem, as you all know I will travel the length of the country for VHS, so more of an inconvenience than anything.

With my work being national, I had some meetings in the area and a few days out on the road planned, so in the late afternoon last week dropped in to see what this guy had.

You could tell immediately as you walked in that the room hadn’t been touched in years, but at its height was displayed on bespoke racking like a video store. There was around 1000 tapes, a mixture of ex-rental pre and post-cert tapes and also generic mass produced sell throughs.

I left with 228 tapes in total, 175 of which are all doubles to me, so will soon (once sorted) be made available for trade/sale. Below is what was picked up.

To the more older hardcore collectors this will be nothing more than car boot fodder that they would leave on the turf, but for me, I grew up in the post-cert era and this is exactly the sort of material I would collect if I didn’t already own almost 85% of it.

When you pick up tapes like Dudes, Easy Money, Mirage, Secret Admirer and Blood Tracks, to name but a few, and for pence, it’s a great day in my book.

P.S. Here are some clues for you to find the video titles with labels:
The Children’s Video Network label has a rainbow background and has a silver ring with silver letters saying ‘CVN’.
The Comictoons label has a pink background with white letters on top saying ‘Comic Toons’ with a black shadow figure of Jiminy Cricket down below.
The Funhouse Video label has a yellow background with black letter’s saying ‘Funhouse Video’ with a smiley face in the centre.
The Take 2 Plus label has a clapper board thing that has a number ‘2’ in the centre of ‘Take’ on the left and ‘Plus’ on the right.
The Supertron Cartoon Videos label has a picture of a dog’s head with rainbow letters saying ‘Supertron’
The Krpton Force label has a red vertical triangle with white letters saying ‘Krypton’ and a yellow rectangle with white letters saying ‘Force’.
The Screen Original label has a black background of blue film and a black ‘Woody Woodpecker’ with blue eyes.
So remember, they need to be in good clean condition, not in wear and tear, and make sure this is the right VHS tape.
    Thanks for reading!

Hi, I see you have ‘Gnome Sweet Gnome’ listed above. I have a VHS tape titled ‘Gnome Sweet Gnome’ from the Childrens Video Network and am unable to find any information about it. My mother-in-law gave this to my son in the early ’90’s. It doesn’t have it’s cover any more. I am having trouble finding any information on this.

      Thanks
      Wendy

I have in my possession the combined collection of a huge vhs rental company in UK. We rented VHS for around 30years and have upwards of 10,000 VHS + a few hundred Beta Max 95% are in excellent condition any others may have mild abrasions on the covers. We are looking for a collector who will cherish these for years to come and not looking for any time wasters.
