Top 10 Movies of 2012

Another year, another list. Please bear in mind that this year’s list has been compiled with some pretty big names missing. I am yet to see such material like; Argo. Cloud Atlas. Wreck it Ralph. The Hobbit (although I doubt that would make it anyway). Shame. Berberian Sound Studio. The Life of Pi. Sightseers. Amour. Silver Linings Playbook. Skyfall.
A few of those may make it on to next year’s list though due to UK release dates.

I have a feeling that 2013 will be heavily influenced by my trip to Fantastic Fest.

Bottom 10 Movies of 2012

I’ll admit it, I was struggling to find 10 movies this year as it hasn’t been a bad year. I also haven’t got around, or maybe won’t ever get around to seeing films like Keith Lemon: Movie, Rock of Ages or ATM – films that have been appearing on other lists from friends.

Jack and Jill would be my number 1 choice but it’s far too obvious, as I expect nothing less from a Sandler production, so with that in mind…

The Burning – The Electric Cinema, Birmingham

The Electric Cinema in Birmingham is the UK’s oldest working cinema. For the past few years they have held a movie festival, or the Shock + Gore festival, as it’s more commonly known.

In 2012 they decided to dedicate an entire day to the world’s greatest format, VHS. I was asked to host a screening as part of this event, whereby I would select a few ‘Video Nasties’ from my collection, talk a little about each selection and then the audience would make their choice. The chosen movie would then be screened direct from VHS on the day.

Curator of Trailers – The Prince Charles Cinema

The Prince Charles Cinema in London host a monthly slot which gives new life to under-appreciated gems from all eras. Films that receive very little love and are generally considered trash.
The Good Bad Movie Club is a club dedicated to showcasing such so-called ‘trash’, and it is my duty to make sure that appropriate trailers are selected to accompany each movie. Like selecting the right wine for each meal.

Below is a list of the events that I have curated the trailer reels for so far. These run in order of newest to oldest (saves you scrolling to the bottom of the page each time).
I will update as soon as the next screening has taken place.
